Offer an opportunity to those serving sentences of varying lengths. Very often, young people end up in prison too early. From that moment on, along with their freedom, their educational opportunities are also limited. This prevents them from building a future. future, once the sentence has been served. The problem affects thousands of young people. For this reason, the head teacher of the school “Leopoldo Pilla” di Campobasso decided to take action by making its institute and teachers available for a real school for prisoners. The result was extraordinary.

Thanks to an agreement between the school principal and the prison house di Campobasso it was possible to offer training theoretical and practical ai detaineesAn inclusive project of integration between school and territory, conceived by the school principal, Rossella Gianfagna, and thanks to which two inmates of the county prison will soon be able to take the state exams.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRISONERS AND SCHOOLS

The project allows the school to meet the needs of maintenance of the Institute, which are carried out by inmates. Thus, the initiative has created a real exchange between work performance and training, for the benefit of those serving a sentence. partnerships who set up a net between the prison and the institute.

In recent years, inmates have taken part in school activities following agriculture courses, where they learn the skills needed to work thegarden. Furthermore, the Leopoldo Pilla school also financed the creation of a vegetable garden inside the prison, where their students went to do work-study programs together with the inmates who cannot leave the facility.

The initiative was appreciated not only by those who are in detention but also by the teachersMany of them have no problem staying at school in the afternoon for evening classes, and in fact they ask the principal to allow them to.

 

Those who had the opportunity to attend the courses were enthusiastic. Some inmates even expressed a desire to do the work of agricoltore, once they've served their sentence. Others, starting from the courses they took, have begun to cultivate interests they'd like to turn into a career. Rossella Gianfagna he recalled the case of a young man who entered prison at a very young age and is now in a state of semi-liberty, who has become a good beekeeper. Currently waiting to serve his final years, he continues to collaborate with the school di Campobasso for the various projects because, the director said, "she strongly desires to be together with the teachers and students." In addition to the courses, The inmates also take part in various agricultural fairs which are organized, being in contact with various people and realities. All this helps them to to escape from forced isolation and allows him to develop some relationships which could be useful to them when they're free. A smart way to offer a second chance to those who have made mistakes and are paying for them.
