Best Practices: Bagnone, Comano, and Fivizzano, Italy's Zero-Emission Municipalities

In Italy, there are three municipalities that present themselves as true models of sustainability and energy efficiency . These are Bagnone, Comano, and Fivizzano , three small towns in the province of Massa Carrara that took part in the international Med ZEroCO2 project , co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and promoted by Legambiente in conjunction with other European partners.

ITALIAN MUNICIPALITIES WITH ZERO EMISSIONS

Main objective: to transform 13 local communities spread across Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece into zero-emission municipalities , a goal to be achieved through saving 805 MWh and producing 572 MWh per year from renewable sources.

A goal fully achieved by all three Italian municipalities, which to achieve it have focused on the installation of solar panels and photovoltaic systems , energy efficiency measures and modernization of public lighting, optimization of public transport services and sustainable mobility . All measures will allow the three virtuous municipalities to save 163 euros per year on energy bills and 380 tons of CO2 on harmful emissions released into the atmosphere.

Specifically, in Bagnone , the installation of solar panels on some buildings has allowed a reduction of 1494 tons of CO2 with a 23,7 percent reduction in emissions, while in Comano , the replacement of old street lamps with advanced systems has led to a 20 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

Polluting emissions have also been reduced by 20 percent in Fivizzano thanks to the installation of photovoltaic systems on some of the city's buildings.

Important results that must become a point of reference for all other municipalities that decide to take the path towards sustainability and environmental protection.
