TOXIC FOODS COMING FROM CHINA

A separate discussion on toxic foods concerns the purchases we make of products that arrive, without the consumer knowing it, from China. The main problem with Chinese food is the local production context: the pollution caused by toxic pesticides and the excessive administration of antibiotics to livestock is sometimes associated with an absolute lack of scruplesIn 2008, for example, a chemical agent present in powdered milk damaged the health of 300 newborns. Not to mention the dyed vegetables which lost its colour during cooking or used oils restaurants, recovered from the sewage, treated and bottled. They were even sold fake chicken eggsThe most worrying products are those of animal origin: meat is more profitable than vegetables and allows for maximum profits. This is why there has also been talk of a strange powder that producers were adding to pork to sell it as beef.

Once upon a time farmers ate what they sold, while today, after realizing the harmful effects of pesticides and fertilizers, allocate part of their production to the market while continuing to cultivate for themselves in the traditional manner. Some citizens, the richest, have even purchased personal farms just to avoid depending on supermarket supplies.

CHINESE FOOD BLACKLIST

But if dangerous foods arrive from China, it is also Europe's fault, as it saves on controls.: At the port of Hamburg, where a large part of the food arriving from overseas arrives, 15 percent of the shipments containing ingredients of animal origin and 20 percent of those of plant origin come from China. For fish, meat, honey For dairy products, the importer must declare the arrival of the goods to the Veterinary and Import Office at the Port of Hamburg in advance and present the transport documents. The office then decides whether the products can enter the country without further inspection. Sealed containers are opened only if there is any doubt about their contents.

Even less monitored products of plant origin: whether fresh, frozen or in the form of preserves, they generally enter the European Union without any kind of control.

It is precisely for all these reasons that numerous industrial groups have announced that they will no longer source from China. Supermarket chains and food companies have realized that they can no longer rely on either suppliers or government controls. For this reason, they have launched the Global Food Safety Initiative in order to develop its own control system quality of products. Meanwhile, however, there is also a blacklist to keep in mind for Chinese food products, with ravioli, shrimp, and strawberries. And even broccoli and mozzarella.
